Step Two and a BIG Surprise

I've got my hammer and I'm ready to start taking down some of the kitchen cabinets.  Here are some before shots -- our kitchen never looks this clean, it almost seems a shame to make a mess!

This is my "do as I say, not as I do" picture!

After the upper cabinets came out it seemed so much bigger and brighter.  I'm not sure that I'm going to want to put anything back up.

Then, on to the ceiling.  A new ceiling will look so nice ... well, that was the plan anyway.  Then we found this ...

Evidence of a rather large fire!  WHAT?!  With extensive damage.  WHAT?!  Now we talking to insurance people, contractors, real estate people, lawyers ... pure frustration.  I'm still trying to process it all ... I think that it's time to put my hammer away now.

  1. Sounds like a Holmes on Homes show! Too bad you don't qualify for him to fix it for you - they only do the Toronto area now.

  2. i would still send them a note--they're called holmes inspection now. it would make a great show and they have come to the east coast before. just remember to use your crafty english skills to make a really good pitch.

  4. We've been here for almost 6 years, and are now wishing that we had started our renovations in the kitchen instead of leaving it for last. Still thinking about sending an email to Mike Holmes too -- what's the worst that could happen, right?

  6. I just sent a letter to Mike Holmes... telling him about your situation. If there's anything I can do to help over the next month or more, let me know. Thinking of you.
