Our Centerpiece - Apr 4

Last week's centrepiece was either too easy or too hard -- judging by the lack of guesses.  I probably should have mentioned that Isaac (8) made it by himself, and that's why it was all TRUCKS.  See, not really that difficult (unless you were over thinking it), so it must have been that it was too obvious.

This week's, however, is a little less obvious.  It was a group effort -- if that makes any difference -- and I'm not sure that I like the way that it turned out ... hmmmm ... I think that it is the blocks that are bothering me.  They are supposed to spell "FUN" and the "n" got sort of buried, oh well.  As always, the winner gets bragging rights for one week and I'm thinking that I will also post the first correct guesser along with the answer next week -- bragging rights and fame, what could be better than that?  Some people have been posting their guesses on Facebook (which is fine) or you can post them here or email them to me at 6wintersinwonderland@gmail.com.

Let the guessing begin!

Our Centrepiece - Mar 28

There was great discussion at our house last week about what our new centrepiece theme should be.  Unfortunately, nobody could agree so we went without last week.  The boys spent the week trying to convince me of how they could make a Star Wars theme, but since we have no light sabers, storm trooper helmets or droids around our house I couldn't really see how it was going to work -- they're plan was to fill it with Star Wars inspired Lego creations ... hmmm not working for me.  But have no fear, we are back on track for this week.

So I know that you have all been dying to find out what the theme from 2 weeks ago was (click here for a reminder) ... drum roll please ... Saint Patrick's Day GREEN!  Alright, so we didn't fool anyone with that one, so pat yourselves on the back and get ready for this week's.

Happy Guessing!

p.s. Wondering what the most popular posts have been?  The 6 most viewed  posts from the last month have been added to the bar on the right.  Are your favourites there?

Our Weekly Centrepiece

We are having a lot of fun with this idea and we're so glad that many of you are choosing to play along.  Last week seemed easy for some, but stumped others.  Owen is working on letter recognition and last week was the letter "C", so everything in the centrepiece began with "C".  Also, for Owen's benefit, none of the items started with "ch" or "c"s that sounded like "s"s -- okay, I know that part was a little too detailed, but thought that you might be interested.

On with this week!  It is a very easy one, but given the occasion on the calendar this week, we decided to go with the obvious (and the easiest).

Happy Guessing!

Our Centrepiece - Mar 7

Okay, our centrepiece has been reassembled for a new week and bragging rights are up for grabs.  It didn't take you very long to figure out what last week's theme was (which we thought would be more difficult), so no more hints for you!  It was, by the way, "If You Give a Moose a Muffin" -- I know, you guessed already.  Anyway, we had a lot of fun putting this one together and I'm pretty sure that you'll get easily get it, so no hints.  Good luck!

Our Centrepiece - Feb 27

I didn't get very many posts in last week, but have no fear, this week, I will do better.

After putting all the red from Valentine's away, the boys and I made a new collage today and we're very excited!  Because last week's was so easy (yes, it was obviously blue -- thanks to those of you that guessed), this week, we're really going to put you to the test.  I'll post the answer next week with the next collage.  Happy guessing!

Okay, one hint:  think literature!

Guess The Theme

We enjoyed creating and seeing our Valentine's centerpiece so much that I am hoping to make it a regular activity.  We are away from home for a couple of days, so today's is kind of easy, but here it is anyway.  Can anyone guess the theme?  I hope to make some that will be a little more challenging, for both the gatherers and the guessers.  Happy guessing!

Valentine's Projects

We actually celebrated Valentine's Day yesterday.  It was Dada's day off, so we invited Grandma and Grandpa over for supper and had a great meal and celebration.  The boys had been working hard on some special projects and it came right down to the wire to get them finished -- Grandma and Grandpa actually had to stand around in the kitchen for a few minutes while we finished up!  Because things were so rushed in the end, I realized that we did not get pictures of all the finished products, so those will have to come later.

The boys have been finger knitting all week to make Grandma's present.  It had been some time since we had done any finger knitting, so we had to re-teach ourselves, but once we did, off they went.  There was yarn everywhere!  It's a good thing that we don't have a cat, although Laurel made a good substitute.  The final product (which is what was being finished up last minute, despite being worked on all week) was finger knit flowers, and I must say that they turned out pretty good.  I'll have to take a picture the next time that we are visiting Grandma, but here are the boys at work.

And Laurel chasing the yarn around!

Our Grandpa, Grampie, Dada, and "other" project (Aidan insisted that we needed four, but would not tell me who the 4th was for ... hmmmm ... now who could it be?) was a stringed heart.  I cut the wood and wrote the names, but everything else was done by the boys.

Owen drew the hearts on ...

... Aidan hammered all the nails (and painted all the edges red) ...

... and everyone had fun stringing the yarn around and around.  Luckily, one of these projects stayed at our house (two actually ... surprise ... the fourth one was for ME!) or I would have not gotten a picture of this project either.

While setting the table and wondering what to use for a centerpiece, we came up with another project that got the whole family involved -- maybe this is why our planned projects were being finished at the last minute.  Everybody was running around the house looking for things that would fit with the theme.  It even provided some dinner conversation -- not that a table of 8 including 4 kids, needs any prompts.

The yellow dinosaur has a red back, and therefore qualifies, but he didn't want to have his face buried, so he looks a little out of place.  It reminds me of those "I Spy" books.  Can you find 2 trucks, 3 dinosaurs, an apple and a lobster?  We had so much fun with this we may change it every week to a different theme ... all trucks, all blue, all musical instruments ... oh the possibilities are endless.  Suggestions?

Happy Valentine's Day from the Winter's!
