Things That Make Me Happy # 26 -- Celebration!

Strolling around the Internet one day, I came across a blog post entitled "100 Things That Make Me Happy". What a great idea, I thought as I scanned the list, so Fridays are now dedicated to things that make me happy!

Things That Make Me Happy!
# 26 Celebration!

Given that this week has been bad news, followed by more bad news, it was a real challenge to come up with something "happy" for today.  I mean, how many times can you hear:  "I don't know how your house is still standing!" and still remain upbeat?  So I decided that today we needed to celebrate.  I wasn't sure what we were going to celebrate, but we would celebrate something!

When I asked the boys for their suggestions for celebrations, Aidan asked:  "Can we celebrate Lego?".  Not really what I had in mind.   "Can we celebrating building Lego?" he persisted.  Again, I had something a little different in mind.  So we moved on to how we would celebrate.  We decided that a cake was a MUST!  "Can we put Lego guys on the cake?" asks my middle son.  He is persistent, if nothing more.

After doing some looking around online, I discovered that today (August 12th) is Middle Children's Day.  What a better way to honour my middle son that to grant his request to celebrate Lego, building Lego and put Lego guys on the cake.  I, too, am a middle child, so I can relate to his struggles, although in my house I had the distinction of being the only girl.  Well, this didn't sit too well with the oldest -- the youngest is too young to care and as long as she gets some cake, she's game for anything!  So in the end, they decided that it should just be "kid day".  They even granted me "kid" status for the day, so that I would be part of the celebrations.

In true kid form, the cake idea turned into a giant chocolate chip cookie.  The boys then covered it in icing and Lego figures.  It was, I was told, the planet Hoth and the rebels were fighting the empire -- yes, Star Wars again!  Anyway, they were pleased with the result.

As fits of uncontrollable giggles erupted around the table over the latest joke (something involving bodily humour, not doubt -- oh the joys of young boys! *sigh*), I realized that it didn't really matter what we celebrated -- the middle child, kids in general, a birthday, or even laughter.  The important things in life -- health, happiness, and, most of all, love -- are all present in our house.  Even if the house may not be as healthy as we would like.

Happy Friday!
