We’re still on our mini-vacation, but are finding lots to do. People have been so helpful in making all kinds of activity suggestions, that we may have to stay longer to get to them all – they all sound so interesting!
This past weekend, we were introduced to a new market -- a small market in a little community down the road. I enjoyed a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows (in a real mug too!) as we walked around looking at vegetable stands piled high with produce, breads, jams and jellies, local wines, and other edible treats. The boys participated in a scavenger hunt and later, watched a weapons demonstration – sorry, I wasn’t paying close enough attention to be able to tell you much about them … too many other things to see … oops! The highlight of my visit, aside from the great company, was the blueberry pie. After hearing the amazing recommendation of one of our experienced marketer companions, we purchased a pie from the Dutch pie lady. I was definitely not disappointed -- it was the best pie that I have ever tasted, sorry mom!
We were also told that the potato bread was a must try, but when we arrived, the potato bread seller wasn’t there and, we were told, was done for the season. But a fellow vendor, after hearing of our disappointment, looked up the lady’s phone number and told us that we should give her a call! It was just that kind of atmosphere where everybody knew everybody else and even we, as visitors, were welcomed and treated like one of the community for the day.
So now I am craving pie and wondering if we’ll make it back again this weekend. I love market day!
Everything still ok in your neck of the woods? Miss your blogging! :) Hope you're doing well!
