Trapped by the Tide
Yesterday was such a beautiful summer's day. With the promise of rain for the rest of the week, we decided to pack a picnic and go to the beach. I dutifully checked the tide times and noted that the tide was on it's way in -- perfect! (f.y.i. when the tide is out the water is really, really, really far away -- oh, the miracle of the Bay of Fundy). We ate our lunch on a grassy spot above the beach, then walked down to dip our toes into the water.
We picked out a nice spot and started exploring, playing, and watching the tide come in. The boys like to build rock walls to see if they can keep the water back -- it never works. Before we knew it, the water had risen so high that the path to the stairs was completely covered! So, we HAD to stay at the beach. Needless to say, nobody was all that upset about this idea.
We skipped some rocks (and watched some older boys who were really good!) ...
... had a snack ...
... did some swimming ...
... relaxed on the beach ...
... and played in the nearby waterfall.
After a while the water receded and the path to the stairs was clear again. Then we packed up our things and headed home; tired, wet, and happy. What a great summer day!
